How to Check the Tread Depth of my Tires?

The Penny or Quarter test is the easiest way of checking the tread depth of your tires. You will have to do this test multiple times on various tire parts to ensure that the tread depth is the same everywhere, as tires tend to wear and tear irregularly.

For the penny test, take a penny and hold it upside down in the gap between the treads and check to see if you can see the top of the President’s head or not. If the head is not visible to you, you are safe and still have sufficient time before changing your tires. But if you can see the head, drive to your nearest tire center and have your tires changed immediately.

The owner’s manual that came with your car would hold details regarding the tread depth that your tire should maintain, and you could use a tread depth measuring gauge or the penny test to keep this in check.

Tires are usually replaced after six to ten years of manufacturing; you can see the date of manufacturing on the side of the wheelbase for your reference.
